Project for an independent provider of actuarial, administration and consultancy services.

Richardson Eyres were asked to assist the company with the move of a storage system and related equipment from one office to a new rack in a separate office. Richardson Eyres were required to manage the move of all designated hardware, ensuring that the HPE 3PAR storage system was correctly decommissioned and recommissioned, and that the UPS and LAN switches were racked as required. For transportation Richardson Eyres used company vans fitted with hydraulic tail lifts. EMC Avamar Installation

A project for a science-led global healthcare company

Richardson Eyres undertook the installation of EMC Avamar in remote office locations away from main data centres in the EMEA region. For each site we were required to rackmount and configure 1 x Avamar Business Edition Node for deployment. The nodes were all shipped to the individual sites and needed to be connected to the new Cisco network switches to allow the configuration to take place. A WebEx session was initiated for each installation and the configuration of the nodes was checked and any final configuration changes were made remotely.

Creating a virtual environment with backup capability

A project for an IT services company.

Richardson Eyres were asked to supply, build and install two HPE DL 380 G9 servers with preconfigured VMware vSphere with Essentials Plus licensing. The installation and configuration included provisioning of a VMware vCentre server appliance and three virtual Windows 2012 R2 servers.

Active Directory and file services were migrated to one of the newly configured Windows 2012 R2 servers from two existing physical servers. Richardson Eyres were responsible for migrating customer data over from the existing file server and decommissioning the existing physical domain controller and file server.

In addition, a Synology NAS was configured and installed on the customer network and file data transferred from an existing NAS device. Richardson Eyres also installed and configured Arcserve UDP backup software on one of the unused and newly configured Windows 2012 R2 virtual machines. The Arcserve backup software was configured to store all of its backup data on a file share on the newly installed Synology NAS device. Symantec Anti-Virus Manager was also installed onto the new Active Directory virtual server.

Backup as a Service and ReliableDR for a large aggregate supplier.

The business has multiple sites across the UK, all connecting to their head office for access to their IT systems. There was just one WAN connection in and out of the head office site, with only one connection into their building leaving the business with a single point of failure which the entire business depends on. In review of their IT infrastructure, the company needed to know that in the event of a data corruption or loss, system failure or total site disaster, that their recovery process is reliable and fast

The business had concluded that it would be prohibitively expensive to introduce network resilience into the site and the site itself is an industrial facility which, by its nature, is a high-risk environment.

Without a Disaster Recovery solution or service in place, should an incident effect the site, or the IT operations within it, the business was at serious risk of an extended outage which would have a major impact on business productivity, client project delivery, reputation, revenue and probable loss of customers. With little systems resilience onsite, a single server failure would result in a period of downtime for the application concerned before service could be restored.

RE Cloud are now running Backup as a Service and Reliable DR for the company, this ensures up-to-date copies of data both on and offsite and an automated and verifiable approach to Disaster Recovery with orchestrated failover to our UK Recovery Centre.

Backup as a Service for a Safety Equipment Supplier

Backup as a Service for a company specialising in the design and installation of fire sprinkler systems.

The company was originally backing up to drives locally and did not have an offsite backup set up when they suffered a ‘ransom’ software attack. This software attack began to encrypt their data but fortunately they managed to restore their data from one of the drives that hadn’t failed. The shock of this attack brought into light the value of the company’s business data and the essential nature of data protection. RE Cloud are now running Backup as a Service for the company to ensure their data can be restored at all times. RE Cloud Backup as a Service (BaaS) is a replacement for on-premise backup and offsite data protection, offering the benefits of the most advanced enterprise backup solutions with ground-breaking and cost-effective recovery, in a simple pay-as-you-go arrangement.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise 3PAR deployment and configuration including Data Migration

A project for a pan-European investment bank.

The company’s legacy iSCSI SAN infrastructure was replaced with the latest 3PAR storage from Hewlett Packard Enterprise – in combination with the deployment of new blade servers using  Flex-Fabric technology.

The data migration followed the deployment / configuration of the new Virtual Machine hosts and SAN Storage. The host data was migrated to the new volumes on the HPE 3PAR Disk Arrays using the most appropriate method for each server, with downtime kept to a minimum. Migration planning was undertaken and confirmed with the customer project team during a workshop. Initially a small number of low risk migrations were performed and, upon success the customer migrated all remaining Virtual Machines over a period of weeks. Once all VMs had been migrated from the old cluster there was the opportunity to facilitate the migration of API VMs. Cooperation with customer’s systems admin team while supporting their business critical IT infrastructure are key for the Richardson Eyres data migration team. We have led the engagement in terms of planning, guidance, defining processes, documentation and migration methodologies throughout.
